Review of Love Actually (2003) by Doctor S — 13 Feb 2013
I really do like it, but it never struck me as being overly happy. Its a sad movie with a shiny happy shell. Lets look at it. Alan Rickman cheats on his wife, Keira Knightly marries the wrong guy, even though the right guy is deeply in love with her.
Colin Firth's wife cheats on him with his brother. Bill Nighy's character (although funny) is an ex drug addict who is skint and needs a no1 for the money, Laura Linneys brither is mentally ill and she cant live her life because of her ties to look after him, and the list goes on.
But its the happy bits to the stories that people remember. Nevermind. I like it an d and the fact the its almost an anti rom com due to the sad parts, makes it stand out from the usual holiday trash.
