Review of Love (2011) by Ben F — 09 Oct 2014
This is more than a film about Love, it is about loneliness, togetherness, survival, & legacy brought together & intertwined with psychology. The fragility of mankind is emphasized in the isolation of Astronaut Lee Miller as he is stranded in orbit alone aboard the International Space Station. We (humanity) are isolated from the rest of the universe aboard the International Space Station known as earth & we struggle with that isolation the same way Astronaut Lee Miller does. I hold a personal belief that we (humanity) are all bound together, not only in the way of human connection through ties in love & hate but in DNA. Although our DNA deteriorates with time & reproduction, I believe we are all connected as one body with a collective mentality in a schizophrenic sociopathic state of mind that puts us down a path of self-destruction. When we succumbed to our isolation we will destroy ourselves. To quote Sonmi-451 (character from movie Cloud Atlas):
"To be perceived and to know thyself is only possible through the eyes of the other. The nature of our immortal lives is in the consequences of our words and deeds that go on and are pushing themselves throughout all time. Our lives are not our own, from womb to tomb, we are bound to others past and present, and by every crime and every kindness, we birth our future.".
