Review of Louisiana Story (1948) by Thomas P — 14 Feb 2008
Documentaries are always pilloried for how "true" they are. This isn't a story about an oil well, it's a picture of a way of life, and there it succeeds. Beautifully shot and very touching, it was financed by Standard Oil and certainly doesn't show them in a bad light.
But they didn't ruin the bayou, the Corps of Engineers did. Lovely to watch, but I'd recommend Man of Aran or Nanook of the North over it.
