Review of loudQUIETloud: A Film About the Pixies (2006) by Mike L — 05 Sep 2007
How much you'll enjoy this film is pretty much equivalent to how much of a Pixies fan you are. The Pixies are perhaps my all-time favorite band, so even 90 minutes of them sitting on a bench would interest me (not too much different from their Velouria video.
) However this documentary is obviously flawed- it just records the Pixies on their reunion tour, and don't provide any insight on why the band got back together, why they broke up initially, or how they feel about each other now.
Regardless it was interesting too see some of their personal life such as Kim overcoming her drinking problem, and Joey's kid. I could have done without all the Charles topless shots though and am unsure what the director was trying to accomplish with the footage of a prescription drug altered David.
Its just a glimpse into the band, not a glimpse into what makes them tick as a band together or what makes them so important in the first place. The target demographic isn't curious music fans though, so I'd hard to criticize it for this.
But if you do view it as a documentary, it doesn't have much of a backbone.
