Review of Lottery Ticket (2010) by Drew W — 27 Aug 2010
Lottery Ticket is a comedy set in a 'hood, detailing a hellish long weekend for one teen after he wins the lottery, and suddenly has everyone on his tail. The film is a blend of comedy and action, but with the emphasis being on the former. All of the acting isn't particularly amazing, but it gets the job done. The storyline can be seen coming from miles away, with nothing really unique or special about it. The film does have an underlying message underneath it about finding true happiness and giving back to those who don't have it as well as you do, but unfortunately, instead of having it sit just below the surface for astute people to think about, the film instead beats you over the head with it with several long, drawn out scenes trying to extract some sort of emotion from the audience. But really, no one is going to see this movie for a life message, they are going for the comedy, and Lottery Ticket comes up a minor winner in this category. It's sporadically funny, with several quick-fire sections being spaced out between looooong segments of dullness. It's just enough to boot the film above mediocre, and into the revered catagory of "not too bad". So maaaybe give it a shot. After you've helped Scott Pilgrim make it's budget back, of course.
OVERALL: 6.0/10.
