Review of Lottery Ticket (2010) by Rakeem M — 24 Dec 2010
Clearly aspires to be the "Friday" of the new generation, but the makers of this film forget that there already is one - it's called "Friday". The screenplay's reliance on "urban comedy" cliches and archetypes combined with a slight heavy-handedness is a hindrance, but overall the spirited performances of the cast keep it from being a total waste of time, and it's clear that it has it's heart in the right place.
It's an enjoyable and surprisingly unembarrassing entry into a genre of film that often gives a negative impression of the people/culture that's being portrayed through the enforcement of crude and vulgar stereotypes.
I was pleasantly surprised and while it's no "Friday," it's certainly not the worst of it's kind.
