Review of Lost River (2015) by Leon B — 05 Jun 2015
Review:
What an awful movie from Ryan Gosling! I completely lost interest from the beginning of the film and I really didn't like the camera work and seedy feel of the movie. I think it's about a woman who is fighting to save her family home because of money problems. She turns to the bank to try and negotiate a way of saving her family home and the manager tells her about his job on the side which involves a weird club were people live out there fantasies. The woman's son steals copper to try and save the family home and gets drawn into an underworld which puts his life in danger. The storyline was a right mess and the scenes really didn't flow properly. The only reason why I knew what was going on is because I watched the interview with Ryan Gosling who has obviously got a weird  state of mind. There are some exploit scenes which really didn't make any sense and we're quite disturbing. Anyway, I really disliked this film and I didn't feel entertained at all. Rubbish!
Round-Up:
For a Ryan Gosling movie, my expectations were quite high but this film is a very big disappointment. There isn't any moral to the story and there isn't much dialogue which made it hard to follow. The filming reminded me a lot of Only God Forgives, which was also a weird film from Gosling and a big disappointment. Its been rumoured that Gosling will be starring in the new Blade Runner alongside Harrison Ford so this film obviously didn't harm his reputation. At 34 years of age, he's got plenty of time to put his mind to writing and directing another project but this movie really didn't work. Judging by the movies takings, which are appalling, it's obvious that this movie didn't go down well with audiences so I'm not alone with my opinions of this badly made film.
Budget: $2million.
Worldwide Gross: $35,000.
I recommend this movie to people who are into their drama/mystery/fantasy movies about a woman whose trying to save her family home and ends up working in a weird club which fulfills people's fantasies. 2/10.
