Ryan Gosling is an enormously talented actor but his directorial debut is a letdown. Lost River is a film he wrote and directed but it is a silly mess. Set in the broken down Detroit suburb of Lost River we meet a small family trying to keep everything intact and together.
But obstacles keep coming up. The film veers from a straight up drama, which could have worked, into some sort of strange fantasy thriller. It just doesn't add up.
