Review of Lost River (2015) by Joe M — 22 May 2016
Very flawed, but a good mix of 'Drive', 'Blue Velvet', and 'Gummo', and shows a promising future for Ryan Gosling as a director, who approaches the material with confidence and really gives it a unique visual style and a hypnotic mood even if the storytelling needs a few improvements.
Also features easily Matt Smith's best performance, as the terrifying, psychotic gangster, Bully (the name is very much an understatement). It's not for everyone, but it's worth your time.
