Ok, so you won't really understand it all that well. Just go ahead and accept that, and let go of the need for it to make sense, which is an issue we all have, as people used to strict realism. It's amazingly creepy and stunningly executed, though.
It's a movie you basically HAVE to see again to explain to yourself why exactly you liked it so much.
