Review of Lost Highway (1997) by David W — 21 Aug 2008
David Lynch films are almost un-ratable for me. I have already decided that I am just simply not smart enough to really make sense out of them. I always formulate theories then lynch takes those theories throws them in my face, and makes me feel stupid, confused and tripped out on drugs. Maybe this is one of his easier films to understand, but I missed it.
But look at my rating, an 8 out of 10, not for comprehension, but for watchability. No matter what happens onscreen, no matter how confusing the story gets I was always interested in what was going on. The acting was fantastic all around, and the direction was great. Visually there is always something interesting going on, and that is what really made the film work.
Overall, the movie was hypnotic as most lynch films are. Frustrating it was, but I liked the challenege. I would love for someone to sit me down and explain what was going on, but what I want people to know is that regardless of my comprehension I was entertained and engaged by what I saw onscreen. An interesting addition to my dvd collection. Perhaps on another viewing or with a friend I will understand more....
