Review of Lost Highway (1997) by Ruben C — 26 Aug 2008
Interestingly intertwined. Up until now, I had been caught up in the buzz of David Lynch's work; because I never quite grasped his stories. This one, I understood completely... Even after finding the pattern, there is no way to realistically connect each of the main character's timelines.
Basically, it's a cheat. You can't connect the dots. And I believe Lynch does this in his movies on purpose. And that's low. I agree with a certain financial backer from the 70's... this is bullshit.
His movies don't make sense and there is no deciphering. He has fooled us all into trying. You gotta give props to him though, for fooling us all in delicious ways, with delicious imagery, and for provoking our imaginations.
