Review of Lost Highway (1997) by Teddy D — 05 Aug 2010
A twisted film noir by David Lynch. This movie has messed up my brain, no matter how many times I see it. Robert Blake as the Mystery Man creeps me out beyond this universe, as I type this I can see his picture in the cast and it makes me near sick.
A lot of really cool, strange characters in this film make it worthwhile. The plot, like in any Lynch film, is almost untraceable until you really sit down and think about what you've watched, which then requires a second viewing (in my case.
. I'm sure there are lots of people who believe they got it on the first trip!); a lot of Lynchs work is a dreamlike world, where clues are hidden amongst the fabrications of the mind. Bill Pullman, Balthazar Getty and Robert Loggia are my favourite parts of this movie.
It's nice to see Richard Pryor, Marilyn Manson and Gary Busey in there, and I think Henry Rollins is tucked away somewhere as well. Wonderful film, always in my Top Ten.
