Review of Lost Highway (1997) by Matthew H — 09 Nov 2010
Thanks to hulu, I was finally able to see this movie in widescreen (I refused to see it otherwise), and it did not let me down. That's not to say that I have any pretense of actually understanding the plot or anything, but that's not the point of a David Lynch film anyway.
He presents his themes and parallel character studies in awkwardly evocative, poetically-paced vignettes that follow his own twisted dream-logic. And while that's not how I like to approach narrative filmmaking, I'm glad someone is pushing things in a different direction - simultaneously entrancing and frustrating his audience at every turn.
