Review of Lost Highway (1997) by Eduardo A — 01 Aug 2009
Although it's one of David Lynch's most comprehensible films (besides The Elephant Man and The Straight Story), it's still a a pretty hefty mind-bender, and probably one of his most symbolic films. It's a story told in 2 parts, exploring a character's descent into male paranoia, insecurity, jealousy, and total madness.
It's a bizarre puzzle without a lot of missing pieces, and fortunately you won't be watching the movie asking other people what the scene is about. Which is what makes it watchable: you kinda get lost in the middle of the story, just enjoying the scenes for what they are or what they mean to you.
The soundtrack was one I didn't really dig, and it's not just the snobbery talking. Which is a shame because sound has always been one of the high points in Lynch's films.
