Review of Lore (2012) by Paolo R — 06 Apr 2013
Beautifully shot and directed, this story of flight from one's past, and you would really want to be running from your past if your father was an SS Officer and the end of WW2 is close at hand. A young woman takes responsibility for her siblings when her parents are arrested, leading them across war-ravaged Germany to the promise of a rekindled utopia with a distant aunt, Lore manages to be a coming of age drama, with a few twists, from the unexpected point of view of a family that does believe in the Nazi ideology.
Narrative and character are nothing new, but the construction and filmmaking are of a high pedigree.
