Review of Lords of Dogtown (2005) by Sv G — 20 Jun 2010
I wish I could have lived in the seventies. Well, at least the seventies as portrayed in this film. Nothing but great music, hot chicks, sex, drugs, booze, and skateboarding. But look beyond that, and "Lord Of Dogtown" is still fun and compelling.
Great performances all around. The story, even though based on a true story, is a bit predictable, but still enough to keep you interested. Awesome editing and AMAZING soundtrack. Some might say that it's not enjoyable to those who have no interest in skateboard.
I personally have no interest in skateboarding, but the feeling of freedom and recklessness had me loving this film. I haven't seen "Dogtown and Z-Boys", the documentary based on the same story, to compare the two, even though the latter is supposedly better.
I'll have to see for myself, but as it stands "Lords Of Dogtown" is worth your time.
