Review of Lords of Dogtown (2005) by Carl L — 16 Mar 2009
I discovered skateboarding in the 1980s, which should mean that I'm jaded about yet another movie chronicling the rise of skateboarding complete with drunken parties and class tensions played out through different clothing codes.
Ultimately, I think this is the best skateboarding movie ever made. It's too bad they couldn't broaden the appeal to a larger audience - the story fits so well into commentaries about commercialization and co-optation of subcultures, coming of age, and tests of friendship.
Great, great flick!
