Review of Lords of Dogtown (2005) by James K — 08 Oct 2010
I think this is a brilliant movie. The early days of the dare devil skateboarder. With 3 very big names in the skateboarding world.
It has a grit and humanising feel about it that really engrossed me.
Heath Ledgers role is great and Johnny Knoxville also adds a bit of color/flare to the movie.
Overall the storyline is also great. Their were a few holes in the plot but to make the movie flow a bit better the director didn't add those parts and Kudos to the Director for that, for making the movie not meander along.
Also having cameos of the actual skateboarders was a stroke of genius (even though those parts were very small). Including a small part played by Tony Hawk, playing some NASA space shuttle pilot, it gave me a laugh!
Most of all I like the skateboarding. While it wasn't of today's standard, it was good to get a feel of how the sport truly began and where it is today. And also, everyone gets old, so enjoy those younger years whilst you can.
