Review of Lord of War (2005) by Jordan S — 05 Dec 2010
I really felt like this movie excelled in many ways, just not in every way, (although I dont know if I could put a finger on what was actually missing, just kind of the "it" wasn't always there.).
Maybe I made the mistake of seeing Nicholas Cage in National Treasure before I saw any of his other movies, but I have always had a terribly tough time picturing him as a "bad ass" that he so often seems to portray in some of his other movies, (probably because of the way he runs so awkwardly in that first NT movie...). But for the first time I felt him really more at home in his "do what I want no matter what happens" kind of role. With that being said, his acting isnt necessary why I liked this movie.
I think I have something for a movie with a buttload of guns, so maybe my idea of this is a little skewed, but I thought overall the movie was a good mix of plot development, with little bitty twists to keep me entertained. While I can agree that it falls short of great in some areas, I thought as a whole it was a very worthwhile movie, something that I feel I can certainly watch again, if not just to see that incredible amount of fire power that oh so often tickles my fancy...
