Review of Lord of War (2005) by Betty Y — 20 Feb 2010
It's hard to decide whether this is a great film or not. It has good actors - Nicolas Cage especially is well-suited for his role - interesting theme and some really tough moral questions. But, in the end, the movie is as grey as they come.
It takes a stand about its subject in the last few seconds, and while in some ways that makes this film even better, in some ways it ruins it. I'm all for gritty realism and shady moral grounds, but in this film it's little distracting.
It's like a story about apple merchants, only with AK-47s. So yeah, the film was good, but it lacked certain greatness and intensity, and I really would have liked some criticism concerning the subject of this film.
Not much, but a little more than two or three lines just before the film ends.
