Review of Lord of War (2005) by Shinyhair X — 17 Nov 2010
In 1982, the American-Ukrainian Yuri Orlov (Nicholas Cage) starts his career as a gunrunner together with his brother Vitaly (Jared Leto) during the Lebanon War, in which he sells guns to all sides of the conflict. Yuri´s business grows and grows, but he is constantly chased by the Interpol agent Jack Valentine (Ethan Hawke) who wishes nothing more than to put Yuri behind bars.
"Lord Of War" shows Nicholas Cage at his best in a movie that shines the light on illegal gunrunning. In the title sequence when we get to follow the journey of a bullet from production until the destructive use of the bullet, is just excellent. The bar is set already there for the movie. This is well made, intriguing with solid acting from all involved and with an ending that wants to show how global powers dictate the distribution of weapons. Not that long ago I red an article about how many weapons that are more or less on the "lose" in the US. The FBI estimates that there are over 200 million privately-owned firearms in the US. Most likely more now. That´s just crazy. Hardly guncontrol... "Lord Of War" is worth a watch.
