Review of Lord of War (2005) by Philip S — 25 Oct 2011
I have a hard time getting up for Nicolas Cage movies these days. I just don't dig him. He often plays the same types of characters and plays them in the same way. He's the protagonist in this one, but, good thing for me, you aren't necessarily supposed to like him.
He plays a devious, underhanded black market arms dealer. Perfect. He actually does a decent job in the role and the movie is certainly watchable. The story moves along nicely and there are some interesting turns.
It does stall a bit near the end, with some very obvious twists which threaten to undo everything that came before, but the resolution is adequate. Sure, there may be some details/choices that make little sense, but since it's supposed to be based on a true story, I'll chalk it up to being too true to the source.
If you like Cage, you'll want to catch this one. Good supporting cast, too. Oh - and Tom Brady is an idiot.
