Review of Lord of War (2005) by James O — 27 Jan 2012
It is very similar to Thankyou for Not Smoking. This film is unflinching, takes a pot-shot at US politics at the end as a get out of jail free card, but generally it is a sympathetic take on the much maligned weapons traders.
Ok, so I understand it wasn't meant to be sympathetic but it doesn't preach which is always good. I'm not usually a Nicholas Cage fan but he was superb in this and was excellently cast. The film is cool and witty in places and even handed in its treatment of the subject.
It also moves at a very good pace and combines the main plot well with a decent sub-plot of his family life that spirals out of control. I really recommend this film, it would be very hard to be disappointed by it.
