Review of Lord of War (2005) by Hope K — 06 Apr 2012
Based off of the true story of Yuri Orlov, Lord of War really examines the life and society of the gun trade. Nicolas Cage actually seems to take his part as Yuri seriously. Cage impressed me with his actual acting skills in this film.
The only exception to this though is Ethan Hawke. His performance seemed forced upon him, and he was a little too dramatic and unbelievable. The story also feels repetative after watching half of it, and looses its spark.
Sure they go into his relationship with his brother, but he isn't all that interesting and you don't feel anthing for him. I don't blame Leto for his performance, but the director for not going into more detail.
This movie though is Nicolas Cage's better films in a long time.
