Review of Lord of Illusions (1995) by Francisca M — 24 Dec 2010
What a crappy movie. I watched this a long time ago and still remember most of it. It's one of those 90s movies with the display of tits a lot, pointless sex scenes that result from a poor plot, crappy dialogue and nothing satisfying.
It's also one of those 90s movies where the gore and horror is there but could be great if there was a strong plot. The end scene with Nix turns gruesome like that scene from "Species" in the lab is gross and fabulous.
The only other thing that peaked my interest was the Postal worker, Butterfield (really?), and the defining terms between an illusionist and a magician. Also I always fine Kevin J. O'Connor interesting.
I don't know why. Everything else was crap. The magic tricks like the rose disappearing and cards weren't even that great especially in a cinema age. Though it is always a pleasure to see Vincent Schiavelli.
But the movie was crappy. Scott Bakula's character was attracted to the dark side and tip-toed the line. How did that help the story? No psychic greatness. Also what was the point of the Repository room.
The guy had papers about the Purist and had it booby-trapped. That was it? That was the connection? Overall, an eh movie that at least moved along.
