Review of Lootera (2013) by Neha M — 07 Jul 2013
Bollywood movies were not always formulaic triangle love-story, trick-gangster singalong musicals. This era started in the 80ies and the end is near. This is one of the better attempts to break out of the formula, a genre mix of the typical indian trick gangster and tear jerking korean style over the edge melodrama, with strong influences from Kwak Jae-yong's best dramas, and the end even a bit of the korean super melodrama "Oasis", everything for the last leaf on the tree.
Sonakshi Sinha is a developing star with now 4 smash hits in a row, and I didn't see Ranveer Singh better before. Lot of the credit belongs to the team also. The music and action parts were clearly stolen from US and korean dramas, well done.
Indian cinema was never original, the always stole from the best. And you have to mix the best, to entertain an audience of billion, speaking around 100 different languages. My favorite indian movie so far since the exceptional "Paan Singh Tomar" and "Gangs of Wasseypur".
