Review of Loose Change: Final Cut (2007) by Dissi — 22 Jun 2008
Loose Change is a religious film. Those who already buy into the it's-all-a-conspiracy line of thinking will see this and declare "Ha! proof! I knew it!". Those who don't will see the flaws in the logic and declare "Ha! No proof! I knew it!". Reminds me very much of Aquinas' five ways in the Summa Theologica.
For example, the teleological argument for the existence of God (google it). Yes, the presence of order and design suggests the presence of an orderer or designer, but does not prove that said deisgner is God as depicted in the Bible.
Likewise yes, the evidence as presented in the film does indeed suggest that the aircraft alone could not have brought down the twin towers, but does not prove that the US Government was responsible. It's an inductive leap that is not supported by the facts.
There is a fundamental flaw in what the filmakers are suggesting: if we assume that the US Government was behind it all, and it was all just a plan to go and get oil, and they are all that devious that they'd be willing to murder their own citizens to achieve their goals; is it not reasonable to assume that they'd plan it properly and cover their tracks? Would the world's best-financed military and intelligence strategists really make mistakes that a 19 year-old media student can spot? Somebody's ego is getting a little carried away, methinks.
Nonetheless, this film serves a very valid purpose of making the viewer think for themselves, rather than accepting the gospel as handed to them.I agree that there is an absence of knowledge that would be required to fully jusitfy the proposition that Bin Laden's posse were the perpetrators, but the viewer should be wary that absence of knowledge is not the same as knowledge of absence .D.
