Review of Looper (2012) by James W — 31 Oct 2013
Ultra gritty and awesomely violent, Looper is a very cool futuristic thriller that works so well thanks to the one of a kind story. Joseph Gordon-Levitt delivers a top performance as Joe, a "Looper" who executes people sent back from the future, but when he comes across his future self played by Bruce Willis, things get nasty.
Willis is brutal yet he shows some surprising emotion in his role, it's a change from his tough guy roles such as McClane and other characters. Emily Blunt is brilliant and very dark, it's strange seeing her play a sweet lovely girl in The Five Year Engagement and then turn into a gun wielding, wood chopping farm handler, she is a top actress.
Looper is a must-see, although it does have a few slow scenes here and there, it has spectacular action, a convincing futuristic feel and the effects are wonderful. I love the slow motion scenes where the young boy/Rain-maker uses TK to send objects floating up in the air, and destroys things in style, that's when my jaw drops! I'd recommend Looper as it's something very different, and the story features some great twists and a mind bending narrative.
