Review of Looking for Mr. Goodbar (1977) by Ray H — 17 Sep 2010
A very good drama. It looks a little dated. But, there is a strong story. We get outstanding acting by a young Diane Keaton. A young Richard Gere & Tom Berenger make effective appearances here. We have a young woman trying to find her way in the world. She is a school teacher of challenged students. By nite, she is sexually promiscuous, drinks way too much, and takes unknown illegal drugs frm shady characters. This is a recipe for disaster.
The film still rings true, decades later. Many young people, before their personalities are fully formed, take excessive risks. Some get out of this, hopefully short-lived period, OK. Others arent so lucky. And, many people seem to never find their way out of a self-constructed forest of destructive behavior.
Its a classic story of human behavior; played out anew by each new generation.
