Review of Looking for Eric (2009) by Sandie W — 17 Jun 2009
When Cantona is on-screen this is truly a joy to watch, and football fans will cherish the rarity that is seeing moments of footballing genius celebrated in the cinema.
The narrative almost runs out of steam as the main story thread shifts focus from Eric's reconciliation with his ex-wife, to untangling the problems his son has gotten himself into. And the fine line that is walked between the lighthearted flights of fancy involving Cantona, and the gritty realisms of the gun-crime sub-plot is certainly unnerving. But ultimately it eloquently speaks to the importance of taking solace and hope from personal heroes in day to day life.
