Review of Looking for Eric (2009) by Agnès R — 08 Jul 2009
Another great British film - this story is a touching story of an older man who lost the love of his life in his early twenties, and is faced with the situation of opening up all of the old wounds between him and his ex-wife.
The use of footballer Eric Cantona - the main character's hero - in sequences where he is counselled by Eric was a clever way to tie in a football storyline to the film. Note that the film is definitely not about football, but about a man who has had a hard life and is facing up to his demons.
The man also has a couple of teenage boys and no wife, and one of the two kids are on the cusp of entering a terrible life of crime. Excellently written and directed - quite a moving film.
