Review of Looking for Eric (2009) by Eric R — 14 Nov 2009
This is not one of Ken Loach's strongest works but its still quite interesting and has some excellent things going for it. First of all, Steve Evets does an absolutely great job as the main character Eric, a postman whose life is slowly descending into crisis.
We care for him, and his performance really carries the film. Ken Loach really tries to blend a ton of genres for this film; its part buddy comedy, drama, thriller, etc. The film at its core is about a man dealing with his dysfunctional family, and in doing say putting his life back together.
Its hilarious at parts and down right devastating at other parts. Some films can really fail at this type of stuff, losing focus or just being all over the place, but Loach does pull off the blend of genres.
Cause lets be honest Life in itself is exactly that.
