Review of Look, Up in the Sky! The Amazing Story of Superman (2006) by Bryan G — 15 Jun 2010
Superman has been my favorite superhero ever since I was little and bought a VHS tape of the Max and Dave Fleischer Superman animated shorts. I don?t know what it was about those cartoons but they resonated with me greatly. And ever since then I have always been fond of Superman. With Bryan Singer?s upcoming movie Superman Returns, I figured I would dedicate this whole week?s reviews to the Man of Steel.
Look, Up in the Sky! The Amazing Story of Superman is a documentary put together by the makers of Superman Returns. It details every step this character has ever taken, from his creation in 1932 all the way to the new film being released this year. And just because the documentary is a tie-in to the film, it is in no way a half-assed job.
The movie is informative, and filled with a lot of people worth listening to. There are people who worked in/on previous Superman movies, shows and such. And there are a bunch of historians and comic book fans to give the movie a broader appeal. And even though I knew most of the stuff in the film, I still felt it was a worthwhile viewing to Superman fans.
The Superman Returns film is the first superhero movie since Ang Lee?s Hulk that I am truly excited to see. And this documentary helped remind me why I love this character so much. The movie is fairly cheap to buy, and has aired on television as well. Either way, you should check it out. .
