Review of Long Shot (2017) by John M — 04 Oct 2017
Terror, courage and love made visible. "Long Shot" will change you. After watching it, you will be a person different from the person you were before.
The interviews are simple. So heartfelt. So truthful. So sincere. The actual courtroom footage is heart wrenching. Deeply honest people, people easy to admire, people striving to do the right things, are knocked down over and over.
Know that watching this film is physically painful. Your stomach muscles will be contracted so tightly they will throb uncomfortably.
So many fateful accidents, including chance encounters with HBO film crew, Larry David and others, land on the screen like mighty dominos lining up into a muscular procession. But again and again, not quite muscular enough. Not strong enough to beat "the sniper," the female prosecutor who prides herself, not for achievements that lead to justice, but simply for the number of people she has managed to get onto Death Row.
In the end, the stars aligned just right for the outcome that occurred. IT SHOULDN'T BE THAT HARD TO PROVE INNOCENCE! Getting stars to align in such a precise formation is harder than winning the lottery--by far. Is innocence irrelevant?
