Review of Lonesome Jim (2005) by Neslihan B — 20 Mar 2009
I found this film to be very lacking, and it kind of hurts my feelings. I have become a pretty big Steve Buscemi fan and more often than not, I enjoy seeing what he does behind the camera. The apathetic drive to this film leaves us wondering, "Did I ever care for this character at all?" There was not a single character in this movie (other than the mother, sometimes) that made you feel emotionally attached to them. I'm starting to think that, perhaps, this was intentional. Unfortunately, if that is the case, I would ask that the publisher please stamp a big "WARNING: PRETENTIOUS INDIE FILM AHEAD" across the front cover.
On a positive note, I will say that in some independent films, one might experience a unique style of cinematography. Steve Buscemi definitely captures some very cool scenes by doing nothing more than exploiting an old, worn out town, which almost makes the film worth watching.
