Review of Lonely Hearts (2006) by Vet C — 14 Aug 2008
Overwritten was the first word that came to mind to describe this movie. Ego-boosting was the second, as I found out that director Todd Robinson is the grandson of Elmer Robinson, the character John Travolta plays in the film (and of course the pivotal hero of the movie).
Personally I wasn't too impressed by this movie...too much time was focused on stock characters (like Scott Caan's annoying cop), and not enough time on main characters (I know nothing of James Gandolfini's character other than the fact he has good taste in fedoras).
The part of the movie that I found interesting was part of this "true story" took place in my home town of Valley Stream. Now, while I was puzzled by the fact that I had never heard of the "lonely hearts killers" before, yet I have lived here my whole life, I was even more puzzled that they choose to shoot those scenes in Louisiana.
For future reference, the Louisiana bayou looks nothing like late 1940's Long Island.
