Review of Lonely Hearts (1991) by Larry M — 09 Dec 2007
Salma Hayek turns in some good work for a change in this bland, unremarkable neo-noir wannabe. Jared Leto is decent, but John Travolta and James Gandolfini phone it in, no thanks to some pretty droll side storylines.
Sumptuous costuming, and great cinematography are at least worth a glance, but the story and characters never climb to heights above anything but average. Pretty raunchy scenes that you KNOW were thrown in to keep the audience awake.
If CSI or any other ho-hum CBS procedural drama decided to rip-off Chinatown or LA Confidential during sweeps, you'd probably end up with something like this.
