Review of Lonely Hearts (1982) by Shane M — 18 Feb 2009
I admit that this is actually a Salma Hayek movie I didn't want to see just for Salma Hayek. However, she was probably the best thing in this movie while also being the worst thing in this movie. If that doesn?t make sense, hold on a moment. I have the misfortune of knowing about the real case before watching the movie. And this movie strays far from it, which probably already put a damper on it for me.
Salma?s character if far from true to life, but a compelling performance piece. Leto is, as almost always, an underrated performer. Then there is the cop crap, which really adds nothing. I know the director of the film is kin, but I think he had to sacrifice a lot for this movie. Needless to say, this movie has a great look for an early century setting. And, as always, Salma has a great look. Just not that of an obese, homely, southern mother of 2 who catered hand and foot to someone.
