Review of Lone Survivor (2013) by Chris W — 18 Jan 2015
Surprisingly moving true life tale of a Navy Seal op that goes hideously wrong. The action set-piece, which is the movie's core, is second-to-none. Visceral and intense, it feels brutally realistic and contains some of the best stunt work I've seen in years.
The acting from all is honest and compelling, you really root for the characters, in spite of the foreboding film title. Some may criticise the film for its bombastic patriotism, but the third part of the film shows the Afghan people in a positive, even heroic light and definitely leaves a moral ambiguity which I wasn't expecting from such a film.
Highly enjoyable.
