Review of London Town (2017) by Barb K — 06 Oct 2016
Once again, a delightful film comes along and "major critics" debunk it for not being important enough. Well I for one, beg to differ! Is entertainment alone not reason enough to see and enjoy a film? Because Derrick Borte's autumn gift to us is definitely that - thoroughly entertaining! No one can fault the performances which are all stellar, especially Huttleston and Williams, and the dialogue is quick and often quite funny.
But center stage is the portrayal of The Clash's Joe Strummer by Jonathan Rhys Meyers. It is simply mesmerizing. Here I agree with the critics, I could have stood a bit more of him and the well cast band.
Its a pity most of us will be forced to see it on VOD instead of theaters, but perhaps, if enough of us share the love, we might see a wider release. Whatever happens, in the end of the day, it is a film Borte and his crew can be proud of.
See it however you can and let's slap an Oscar in Rhys Meyers' hand for this one!
