Review of London Has Fallen (2016) by Anthony T — 06 Dec 2016
I will be the first person, and one of only a handful of people that will jump to the defense or the first movie. In my opinion Olympus Has Fallen was great. It was a throwback to old school action movies from 30-40 years ago. Butler and Eckhart may not have exactly the same star power as Tatum and Foxx, but OHF proceeded to outclass White House Down by sticking to the basics. WHD was an example of what action movies are while OHF showed the formula for what they once were is still feasible and superior.
Which brings us to London Has Fallen. The sequel was everything the first movie wasn't. It attempted to be bigger, and louder than its predecessor. While it succeeded it that regard, the movie was a huge step down, and thus a big disappointment. There were some solid action scenes and that is worth two stars, but the plot was thin, and story was practically non existent. While the first one owed a lot to Die Hard, London Has Fallen wanted to be Die Hard With A Vengeance, but ended up being A Good Day To Die Hard instead.
Hopefully for the third part of the trilogy the series goes back to its 80s action movie roots instead of trying to be a spectacle.
