It's the type of movie you watch just to see people get shot and stuff get blown up. So don't expect things like intelligence or even originality. What you can expect is a whole lot of American, anti-terrorism pride. The kind anyone who loves this country can cheer for, but still be a little embarrassed about around non-Americans. All in all though it's decent patriotism porn.

And at the end of the day the action is just fun. The special effects might scream budget action movie, but when the bullets are flying and buildings are popping it's hard to care. It's also a surprisingly brutal movie. There are a few scenes where it really doesn't pull any punches and gets graphics with it's depiction of things like torture. Almost to the point of sadism.

The plot is nothing more than an excuse to get all the mayhem started. The terrorists are doing, you know, terrorist stuff and Gerard Butler is acting as a one man army on a rampage to save the president because you don't mess with the USA. I can put up with all that. I'm only here for the violence anyway. It's just a shame I have to listen to the dialog though. Oh, and every character but the one Butler is playing is an idiot.

Seriously though, this dialog sucks. The characters just say dumb stuff. When it tries to get all emotional and dramatic on us, it's just too cheesy and cliché to buy into. Not too mention a lot of these actors just aren't up to par with likes of Morgan Freeman. Seriously what is he doing in a movie like this? The guy deserves better than his recent run of films.

So if you haven't picked up on this yet, what I'm saying is show up for the boom boom and nothing else. This isn't high art and certainly isn't intelligent. Yet, I can't say I wasn't entertained. I liked the not so good looking action and it got my inner patriot cheering for another win for America. I'd be embarrassed to show it to my non-American friends or the ones who demand a little more thoughtfulness from their movies. When it comes down to it though, it's disposable, mindless entertainment. A reminder that these colors don't run, that can be some stupid fun.
