Review of London Boulevard (2010) by Tim F — 07 Nov 2011
The cast is strong and William Monahan wrote a pretty good script ('The Departed') but 'London Boulevard' is not that script. If one were to take every mobster cliche and put them in a blender, 'London Boulevard' is what would be produced.
The directing is amateurish Scorsese at best, the script is plagued with boring side stories and unbelievable character motivations, the music is good at times but is poorly or recklessly used, the dialogue can be 'shite', and the ending is dreadfully weak and erases anything that may have been tolerable about the prior proceedings.
A good lesson in how to make a gangster movie a narcoleptic joke.
