Review of Lolita (1962) by Sharyn H — 18 Nov 2008
While I do not agree with pedaphilia, I did find Mason's Humbert to be sad, ill, lonely, lost, desperate - and felt for him quite strongly because of those things. On the other hand, I found myself disliking Lyon's Lolita progressively more as the movie went on.
He was ruined; she just seemed so selfish. (Sellers, as always, was masterful.) Overall, I liked the movie, but saw it more as a character study than a form of entertainment.
