Review of Lolita (1962) by Private U — 20 Nov 2008
The acting and direction in so precise it's almost unnerving. Kubrick films tend to be slightly cold and distant, but this film is intimate, subtle. Peter Sellers' performance is hilarious and wonderful, and James Mason plays Humbert straight, without judging him, and Kubrick doesn't judge him, which is important.
I never realized what a bitch Lolita really is.
