Review of Lola Montès (1955) by Nathan C — 30 Dec 2007
Visually amazing movie from the 50s about a woman who had many famous lovers throughout her life in the 19th century. She's now a circus attraction as Peter Ustinov plays the ringmaster who retells her life.
It's a well edited film, told in flashbacks as she gives one of her circus performances. The scenes in the circus are cool with great colors, camera shots, and sets. I also loved the brief scene when Lola is on a ship and she's outside with a guy, it's very well done.
The scenes near the end with the king drag a bit, but overall it's a good movie with a good performance from Ustinov.
