Review of Lola (1981) by Ld P — 15 Apr 2009
Interesting German movie. Of course I always say that a movie has to be interesting for me even to look at it or have it in my queue. To me this is kind of a comedy/farce based on german post WWII politics.
Although the movie had meaning for me, I am sure it had much more meaning to the german audiences. I still enjoyed it though. Also in lieu of the fact that I consider this a comedy/farce its interesting to see that Fassbinder did the entire movie in comic book colors.
Wow is this a colorful movie. Every scene imbued with shocking vibrant colors--every shade!! Its also obvious to me that this is the work of a mature film maker, but to me the plot (although presenting us with some morals in small town german thinking) follows a rather predicable path.
I rented Fox and Friends and forget why I did not see the film when it was here at the house! I did some reading on Fassbinder and think I would be more suited to see some of his earlier (more shocking?) works.
I will see Marriage Eva Braun next from and and Veronika Voss. Good enough movie to rate 3 or 4 stars. I give it four stars just for the singing prostitute and all the glorious colors he uses!!
