Review of LOL (2012) by Daniel C — 10 Jul 2008
Having seen a few of these, I hope the 'mumblecore; wave is over. While they nail a certain milieu of post-collegiate drifters, I find it more interesting to watch my neighbor's dog relieve himself on the street than watching this stuff.
Sadistic, self-loathing, and most importantly passive-aggressive. LOL takes the cell phone as its main character and supposedly explores its effect on relationships. What I got was that the more accessible technology is (camera phones, digital video), the more opportunities it gives for more guys to use it to get more girls to take their tops off.
Hooray, technology. The film says very little about modern relationships besides the ones the characters have with themselves. So much for the American new wave.
