Review of Logan's Run (1976) by Paul G — 04 Dec 2010
70s science fiction was so innocent, so earnest in its attempts at the grandiose, the epic. A film like Planet of the Apes was all these things and more. Logan's Run? Well, not quite. Yet the funny thing is that LR should be kitsch -- no, it *is* kitsch -- but by about 20 minutes into it you stop noticing that. Well, most of the time :) This isn't a great movie by any means, yet there's something naively authentic about Logan's Run that makes it strangely charming and, in the end, quite engaging.
If you're one of the ipod generation who's enthralled by GREAT SFX (DUDE!), vapid plots with Will Smith starring, and water running down a drain... well, you'll hate this movie. But if you're like me and you simply can't tell the difference between a Robert Downey Jr. and a Hugh Jackman, give this cheesy old classic a try. You might be suprised.
